Sebastian Horsley’s retrospective Hookers Dealers Tailors and the publication of his memoir Dandy in The Underworld Sponsored by La Fée Absinthe.
La Fée were proud to be sponsors of Sebastian’s retrospective Hookers Dealers Tailors party in the Spectrum Gallery, London. We were expecting around 200 people to join in the fun at the gallery, which was also celebrating the publication of his memoir “Dandy in The Underworld”, but were delighted to receive more than double that number with crowds pouring out onto Great Titchfield Street. La Fée Absinthe Parisienne flowed and our fountain worked continuously through out the whole evening.
Who is Sebastian Horsley?
Sebastian Horsley is a true English eccentric and a self-described dandy with an extremely interesting character…
Dandy in The Underworld is his memoir and whatever you think of Mr Horsley before you read, by the end you will find it very hard not to like him. It is an exhilaratingly honest account of his life that begins with his strange and neglected childhood and his relationship with his alcoholic parents, and follows his many experiences though his turbulent life from: failed abortion, spending thousands of pounds on prostitutes, his descent into crack and heroin addiction and desperate failures to overcome it, his crucifixion and his encounter with sharks. One national newspaper quoted it as “one of the funniest, strangest and most revolting memoirs ever written.”
What the critics say about Mr Horsley…
“The most literal exercise of artistic suffering since Van Gogh cut off his ear. Heroically stylish” The Telegraph
“Horsley is motivated not by religious but by artistic zeal.” Roger Scrutton, The Times
“Sebastian Horsley is one of the most dynamic young artists to have emerged from the UK in years.” The Guardian
